Mersal is a health charity that serves Egyptian and non-Egyptian patients in need on non-discriminatory basis, with strong adherence to the rules of its advanced code of ethics, most prominent of which is protecting patients’ privacy.
It provides health care and support to a wide range of individuals with different health issues including these requiring high budget per capita. It provides support to the patients suffering from cancer, moving disabilities, hearing disabilities, mental illness, and the list goes on.
In addition to its network of doctors and medical institutions, Mersal has its in-house oncology center, and physiotherapy, psychiatry, and speech clinics, with an annual capacity of multiple hundreds of patients.
Moreover, it carries out campaigns directed to support patients of specific diseases, such as its prolonged Story of a Voice campaign that aims at enabling funds to provide cochlear implant surgeries to the children in need.
Furthermore, and besides the direct health aid it presents to the individuals in need, Mersal is now finishing and furnishing its hotel-like accommodation building that is to be dedicated to the patients who do not have accomodation in Cairo during the period they receive their treatment. The building is to serve the patients who receive aid through the organization network of doctors and facilities or through other health care providers.
Officially established in 2015, Mersal has five branches in Cairo and Alexandria, the two main cities in Egypt. With operations all over the country and refugee and non-refugee patients, the organization has a very ambitious expansion plan nationally and regionally. The execution of such a plan is supported by the great succes Mersal has achieved, which is demonstrated in the skyrocket increase in the donations people have trusted it to spend on philanthropy causes between 2015 and 2017: around 450%.
