Job Description
-Collecting and analyzing data on the operational costs of the company, such as labor, materials, overhead, shipping, etc.
-Developing and maintaining cost accounting systems and procedures that comply with accounting standards and regulations
-Setting and updating standard costs of products or services based on market research and cost analysis
-Performing cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis to determine the break-even point, margin of safety, and target profit of the company
-Preparing and presenting budgeting reports for the company and each department, showing the actual and projected revenues and expenses, variances, and trends
-Assisting in the preparation and review of financial statements, audits, and tax filings
-Identifying and recommending ways to reduce costs and increase profitability, such as improving efficiency, quality, or customer satisfaction
-Supporting other accountants and financial staff with invoicing, capital expenditure, inventory valuation, and account reconciliation
Job Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
A professional certification, such as the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or the Certified Cost Accountant (CCA)
At least 7 years of proven work experience as a cost accountant, cost analyst, accountant, or similar role
Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures and standards, especially cost accounting and budgeting.
In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Experience with accounting software, such as FreshBooks, Zoho, QuickBooks, or Sage
Proficiency in spreadsheet applications, such as Excel or Google Sheets, and data analysis tools, such as ODBC
Excellent analytical, mathematical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to prepare and present budgeting reports, cost forecasts, and audit findings.
Ability to identify and recommend cost-effective solutions and optimize profitability.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, under pressure and within deadlines.
